The Eyes of Desire, the Eyes of Faith

God remained faithful to Abram even in Egypt, protecting him and allowing him to return with great wealth. After coming back to Canaan, Abram built an altar and worshiped the Lord. As Abram’s and Lot’s possessions increased, conflict arose between their herdsmen. Rather than insisting on his rights, Abram chose peace and allowed Lot to choose the land first. Lot selected the fertile land based on what looked good to his eyes, unaware of the wickedness that filled it. Despite this, God reaffirmed His promise to Abram, assuring him that all the land he could see would be given to him and that his descendants would be countless. Abram trusted God’s word and settled in Hebron, where he built another altar to the Lord.

God is the faithful provider who secures the inheritance of those who trust Him. Those who have God as their portion do not need to compete or fear loss in the pursuit of worldly prosperity. As we surrender our rights, consider others, and walk in obedience, God leads us into a far greater and lasting inheritance.

Lot, blinded by abundance, chose what appeared desirable but was spiritually dangerous. What looks good to the eyes is not always what is good for the soul. God teaches me to be cautious of choices driven by desire and to learn to see with the eyes of faith, trusting God’s promises rather than outward appearances.

Dear God, help me not to be deceived by what looks appealing, but to trust You and choose Your path through the eyes of faith.
